The 2001 Tasca d'Almerita Cabernet Sauvignon, from the famous San Francesco vineyard in the Regaleali Estate, is considered one of the most monumental versions ever produced. The 2001 vintage in Sicily was iconic, marked by a steady climate that allowed for precise tannin ripening. On the nose, it is an explosion of complexity: the varietal note of roasted red pepper has now melded with hints of dark chocolate, licorice, eucalyptus, and a deep mineral trace of graphite. On the palate, it is sumptuous, almost architectural; the entry is broad and warm, typical of the Sicilian sun, but immediately disciplined by a vibrant acidic backbone (a product of Regaleali's altitude) and tannins that, while dense and noble, have become velvety. The finish is endless, balsamic, and of aristocratic savoriness.
