Luigi Maffini's Siopè 2016 is a monumental work, the ultimate expression of Aglianico from Cilento, produced only in exceptional vintages. If Kleos is freshness and Cenito is structure, Siopè (which means "silence" in Greek) is deep meditation, a wine born from an extreme selection in the vineyard and a very long aging process. The 2016 vintage, among the most balanced of the last twenty years, allowed this "difficult" grape variety to reach perfect polyphenolic ripeness. On the nose, it is a concert of rare elegance: clear notes of marasca cherry liqueur, blackberry, and myrtle merge with deep scents of dark tobacco, coffee powder, quinine, and a mineral trail that evokes the sun-scorched Mediterranean scrub and flint stone.
