Tenuta Masseto Massetino 2020
The Massetino of the Ornellaia estate is a great Tuscan red made from a Bordeaux blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes harvested in the prestigious and renowned Masseto hill, in the heart of Bolgheri. The vinification of each individual variety takes place separately, and the alcoholic fermentation is catalyzed by indigenous yeasts in barriques. After further refinement in barrique and bottle, it conquers for its elegance, complex intensity, and expressive power, with a rich and wide bouquet of rose, sour cherry, licorice, and balsamic sensations.

The 'Massetino' represents the so-called "second wine" of Tenuta Masseto, owned by Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, although in terms of quality it has little to envy to the great Italian red wines. In fact, with its imposing structure and elegance, this Bordeaux blend ranks among the top Supertuscans. The 'Massetino' was first released with the 2017 vintage in 2019, the same year the new Masseto winery was inaugurated, designed by Italian architects Zito & Mori, exactly 30 years after the release of the first Masseto. Production is extremely limited for this prestigious bottle, which absolutely cannot be missing in a hypothetical collection of the best Supertuscans. Tenuta Masseto 'Massetino' is born from a solid base of Merlot, to which a small percentage of Cabernet Franc is added. Harvesting is done manually in crates and, after destemming and light pressing, the mass is conveyed by gravity into concrete tanks where spontaneous alcoholic fermentation takes place. Each individual vineyard plot is vinified separately and maceration on the skins lasts for over 3 weeks. Subsequently, the wine is transferred to French oak barriques, about half of which are new, where malolactic fermentation and aging for 12 months take place.
